Inglewood's Next Frontier: New Mixed-Use Hub Planned Near SoFi Stadium

A new 10-acre mixed-use development, 'The Champions District,' is proposed for Inglewood, just east of SoFi Stadium. This project aims to bring 400 residential units, retail, and office space, further transforming the city's landscape.

Inglewood's post-SoFi Stadium boom continues with the proposal of 'The Champions District,' a significant mixed-use development slated for a 10-acre parcel at 3200 W Century Blvd. The project, spearheaded by local developer Inglewood Legacy Partners, envisions 400 residential units, approximately 150,000 square feet of office space, and 75,000 square feet of ground-floor retail and restaurant amenities. This development aims to capitalize on the energy generated by the stadium and the upcoming 2028 Olympics.

"Inglewood is no longer just a pass-through city; it's a destination, and 'The Champions District' will be a cornerstone of its continued growth," stated Marcus Thorne, CEO of Inglewood Legacy Partners. "We're creating a vibrant community that offers housing, jobs, and entertainment, all within walking distance of world-class sports and entertainment venues." The design, by AC Martin, features contemporary architecture with ample public open spaces and pedestrian-friendly pathways.

Initial environmental impact reports have been filed with the City of Inglewood, and public hearings are expected to commence in late summer. If approved, construction could begin in mid-2027, with a phased completion anticipated by 2030. The project is estimated to cost around $600 million, with funding discussions ongoing with institutional investors and private equity firms.

Local residents have expressed a mix of excitement and concern. "It's great to see more investment in our city, bringing new jobs and amenities," said longtime Inglewood resident Brenda Jackson. "My main hope is that a significant portion of the housing will be affordable for current residents, and that local businesses will have opportunities to thrive in the new retail spaces." The developers have indicated plans to include a percentage of affordable housing units, though the exact number is still under negotiation with the city.

'The Champions District' is strategically located to benefit from existing and planned transit infrastructure, including the Crenshaw/LAX Line. The development will incorporate robust transit-oriented design principles, encouraging residents and visitors to utilize public transportation. Parking will be primarily subterranean to maximize open space and pedestrian access at street level.

This project is part of a broader wave of development in Inglewood, including the Intuit Dome and various residential and commercial complexes. City officials are working to ensure that new developments contribute positively to the community while managing the challenges of rapid growth, such as gentrification and infrastructure strain.
